Futura colt makes fairytale come true

2nd August 2020

Cheveley Stud’s grooms enjoyed a fairytale come true when they sold a Futura colt for R1.2 million at the recent Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.

Catalogued as lot 394, the colt, out of the dual winning Argonaut mare Siena’s Star, was knocked down to trainer Andre Nel, on behalf of owner Sabine Plattner at the second session of the 2020 National Sale.

Cheveley’s Vaughan Koster was delighted with the result, saying, “”I’m over the moon for our staff. R1.2 million is way beyond what our expectations were. The guys are so super-chuffed and I don’t think the reality has really kicked in yet. It’s tremendous and such generosity from [buyer] Sabine Plattner. I’m extremely chuffed for them – it’s a fairytale and a wonderful realisation for them. Let’s hope it culminates in him being a talented racehorse!”

All proceedings from the sale will be shared among the grooms.

The colt is yet another feather in the cap of former Horse Of The Year, and four time G1 winner Futura. The son of outstanding sire Dynasty, sire of, among others, 2020 G1 Vodacom Durban July winner Belgarion, has made a superb start to his stud career with Futura (himself unraced at two) responsible for a pair of first-crop two-year-old stakes winners last season in the form of G2 Durban Golden Horseshoe winner Nourbese and Champion Juvenile Cup heroine Dindingwe.

Futura ended the 2020 National Sale having sold seven lots for an aggregate of R2.21 million.
