Silvano dominates National Sale

2nd August 2020

For a second year in a row, Maine Chance Farms’ outstanding sire Silvano topped the sires’ list at the Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.

Recently crowned South African Champion Sire for a fifth time, Silvano ended the 2020 National Sale atop the list with his 26 lots to sell grossing R26.98 million and averaging R1 037 692.

Silvano, whose son Masaki made R9 000 000 when topping the 2019 National Sale, was responsible for the top five lots sold at this year’s sale, and had no fewer than seven lots make R1 000 000 plus.

The former Arlington Million winner was responsible for the 2020 National Sale topper with his son Celestial City (Lot 185), a full-brother to champion and five time G1 winner Hawwaam, making R7 000 000.
Consigned to the sale by Wilgerbosdrift, Celestial City was knocked down to Summerhill Equestrian as the sale topper.

Wilgerbosdrift also consigned another pricey Silvano colt in the form of Scarlet Ibis (Lot 106), who was knocked down to Form Bloodstock for R4 500 000.
A three-parts brother to Silvano’s Kings Cup winning son Born To Perform, Scarlet Ibis is the third foal out of two time winning Western Winter mare Dashing Scarlet, herself a daughter of champion Dancer’s Daughter.

Silvano ended 2019-2020 as South Africa’s leading sire by stakes earned, with his progeny earning over R12.968 million and winning 18 black type races in this country.
