Drakenstein Stud will stand the talented Gold Standard in 2018. The handsome bay is the very first son of Drakenstein’s champion resident sire Trippi to stand at stud in South Africa.
One of 70 stakes winners for his champion sire, Gold Standard ranked among the leaders of his generation.
He won or placed in nine of 11 outings, banking just under R1 000 000 in prize money in the process.
Gold Standard scored the biggest win of his career when landing the G2 Selangor Cup over outstanding G1 winners Edict Of Nantes and William Longsword.
Also victorious in the Listed Racing Association Stakes, Gold Standard followed up his Selangor Cup win with a game second, to William Longsword, in the G1 Cape Guineas of 2016. Among those beaten by Gold Standard in the Guineas were champion Edict Of Nantes, G1 winners Heavenly Blue and Gunner, and current Hong Kong star Singapore Sling.
Gold Standard’s sire Trippi, Champion Sire in South Africa in 2015-2016, is enjoying another fantastic season this year, with his notable runners including exported G1 SA Classic winner Lobo’s Legend, Lanzerac Ready To Run Stakes winner Miss Katalin and promising 2yo, and Listed Perfect Promise Sprint winner Lesedi La Rona.
The latest addition to the Cape stallion band also hails from a superb female line. Himself a half-brother to four winners, Gold Standard is out of a daughter of champions Model Man and Olympic Duel –who between them won 12 G1 races! One of the greatest racemares to grace the South African turf, Olympic Duel was an official champion three times, and her seven G1 victories included all of the J&B Met, Champion Stakes, and Mainstay International.
Olympic Duel also proved very successful at stud, with the daughter of outstanding broodmare sire Dancing Champ producing 3 stakes winners, notably G1 Daily News 2000 winner Flying Duel. Olympic Duel is also granddam of six other stakes winners, including G1 winner Thundering Star.
Gold Standard traces back in female line to the outstanding broodmare Double Life, whose offspring include the highly successful sires Persian Gulf (sire of multiple champion South African sire Persian Wonder) and Precipitation.
