Varsfontein Stud’s champion sire Gimmethegreenlight had a day to remember on Saturday.
Not only did Gimmethegreenlight’s daughter Green Diamond romp home to win the G3 TAB Protea Stakes (1100m) at Turffontein on Saturday, but the stallion’s four-year-old daughter Let’s Go Now caught the eye when she won the G2 TAB Colorado King Stakes (2000m) on the same card.

Both fillies are trained by Sean Tarry.

Winner of last season’s G3 Mother Russia Stakes, Let’s Go Now took her earnings to R1 043 750 with her latest win.

Under a great ride from Richard Fourie, the full-sister to champion Bless My Stars came with a late rattle to get up close home and win a shade cosily by a long neck.

Out of the Silvano mare Star Express, Let’s Go Now, a winner of four of 20 starts, is bred on the same Gimmethegreenlight/Silvano cross as fellow graded stakes winners Bless My Stars, Barahin and Cosmic Highway.

Her outstanding sire is also responsible for Green Diamond, who made it back to back graded wins when she romped to a six and a half length win in Saturday’s Protea Stakes.

Gimmethegreenlight went close to recording a remarkable graded stakes treble on Saturday. Not only did Green Diamond and Let’s Go Now both win graded features, but the Gimmethegreenlight daughters Jingleberry and Gimme A Shot ran second in Saturday’s G3 TAB Pretty Polly Stakes and G2 TAB Camellia Stakes respectively.
