Sandown Stud’s consistently successful stallion Pathfork is the sire of this season’s very smart three-year-old Olivia’s Way.
The latter picked up the second graded win of her career when she won the G2 TAB Igugu Stakes (2000m) at Turffontein on Saturday.
Winner of the G3 Allied Steelrode Yellowwood Handicap earlier in the season, the Roy Magner trained filly came into Saturday’s contest off a fourth place finish in the G1 TAB SA Derby.
Olivia’s Way was given a patient ride by Gavin Lerena in the R350 000 Igugu Stakes.
Lerena tracked the front running Indian Ocean, pouncing late to get up close home and score a narrow, if convincing, win by just over half a length.
Bred by The Flying Stud, Olivia’s Way, also runner up in this season’s G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic, has won five of 11 starts.
Olivia’s Way is out of the War Pass mare My Lovely.
Her G1 winning sire, Ireland’s Champion 2YO Colt of 2010, has enjoyed another good season and recently nearly pulled off a graded stakes winner double when his son Main Defender ran second in the G2 TAB Hawaii Stakes and another son, Royal Victory, ran second in the G1 HKJC World Pool Premier’s Champions Challenge on the same card.
