Jay Peg’s juvenile double

24th Jul 2017

Hemel ‘N Aarde’s successful resident sire Jay Peg had a pair of juvenile winners this past weekend, which took the former Equus Champion’s tally of two-year-old winners for the 2016-2017 season to eight.

First of the Jay Peg juveniles to salute was the Hemel ‘N Aarde bred Veeipee Club, who broke her maiden in convincing style over 1600m at Fairview on Friday. Making just her third racecourse appearance and trying the mile for a first time, the filly drew clear, under Lyle Hewitson, to post a 1.25 length win for trainer Yvette Bremner.

Second of the Jay Peg juveniles to win this weekend was the Dean Kannemeyer trained Perfect Jay. The later showed plenty of heart to score by a neck in open company over 1200m at Scottsville on Sunday over well bred first-timer Draugluin. Also bred by the Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud, Perfect Jay has a Where’s That Tiger half-sister on offer at the 2017 National Two Year Old Sale.

Jay Peg, whose previous notable 2yo stakes winners include such graded winners as Flash Drive, Hot Affair and Olympic Owen, is also responsible for 2017 G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes winner Woljayrine. He has more local 2yo winners to his name this season than does Lonhro, Redoute’s Choice, Twice Over, Dynasty and Silvano.

The former G1 Dubai Duty Free/G1 Singapore Cup winner has three lots on offer at the 2017 National Two Year Old Sale- including a colt from the same family as Horse Of The Year and champion Australian sire Lonhro (Lot 212), a filly from the great Party Time family (Lot 442) and a colt whose second dam is a half-sister to Canadian classic winning champion Gandria (Lot 449).
