KZN feature race double for Querari

3rd May 2026

Maine Chance Farms’ red-hot sire Querari enjoyed a memorable day on Saturday.
Not only was Querari was responsible for four winners on the day, but Querari sons Questioning and Star Major won Saturday’s G2 Independent On Saturday Drill Hall Stakes (1400m) and G2 World Sports Betting Guineas (1600m) respectively.

The James Crawford trained Star Major picked up the second graded win of his career with his victory at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday.
Under Mickaelle Michel, the Querari three-year-old made it three wins from ten starts with a fine performance in the Guineas.

Star Major stormed home from off the pace to get up close home and deny favourite Tin Pan Alley victory by just under a length.
The 2026 World Sports Betting Guineas winner was a triumph for Querari, with the son of Oasis Dream not only the sire of the winner but also broodmare sire of Guineas runner up Tin Pan Alley.

Bred by Maine Chance Farms, Star Major (who had won the G3 HKJC World Pool Politician Stakes in Janaury) races for Neville Isdell, Mr J I Bloch, Mrs Prakashni Pillay & Kalinga.

Star Major is out of the Silvano mare Star In The Sky, and is thus bred on the same cross as such G1 winners as Bavarian Beauty and Cosmic Speed.

Saturday’s winner was a R500 000 buy from the 2024 National Yearling Sale.

His inform sire Querari had a trio of winners (ACM Roy’s Fantasy, Questioning, Star Major) at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday, with Querari gelding Zoomie adding to his tally when winning in Mauritius on the same day.
