Vercingetorix filly lands TAB Camellia Stakes

26th April 2025

Maine Chance Farms’ star stallion Vercingetorix, set to be crowned South Africa’s Champion Sire for 2024-2025, had another big payday this season when his daughter Mia Moo won the G2 TAB Camellia Stakes (1160m) at Turffontein on Saturday.

From the red hot Sean Tarry stable, four-year-old Mia Moo came into Saturday’s R350 000 off a courageous win in the G3 4Racing Sycamore Sprint and she duly made it a graded stakes double with a fluent win in the Camellia Stakes.

Under a confident ride from Piere Strydom, Mia Moo cruised into the lead close home and from there powered away to win by more than two lengths.

Bred by Klawervlei Stud, as were her sire and dam, Mia Moo is out of the Captain Al mare Leeward.

Saturday’s winner has won five of 15 starts.

Bred on the same Vercingetorix/Captain Al cross as G1 winners Double Grand Slam and Vernichey, Mia Moo was a R300 000 buy from the 2022 National Yearling Sale.

Her sire Vercingetorix, whose two-year-old daughter Vanakkam ran second in Saturday’s G3 TAB Protea Stakes and whose sons Marauding Horde and Hotarubi finished 2-3 in Saturday’s G2 TAB Colorado King Stakes, has had a fantastic season in 2024-2025 where his representatives included such graded stakes winners as Double Grand Slam, Oriental Charm, Rascallion, Spumante Dolce, Garrix and Greaterix to name but a few.
