Maine Chance Farms’top-class stallion Querari enjoyed another big day at Turffontein on Tuesday.
Querari’s two-year-old son Time Is Precious ran out an impressive winner of G3 TAB Protea Stakes (1100m). (The Protea Stakes third Kavady was sired by Querari’s half-brother Quasillo).

Trained by Johan Janse Van Vuuren, Time Is Precious made it three wins from four starts with a fluent win in the Protea Stakes.

Under Callan Murray, the Querari gelding stormed home to claim Tuesday’s R300 000 contest by nearly a length and a half.
It was a fine performance from the hatrick winning Time Is Precious, with the latter having to concede weight to all his Protea Stakes rivals.

Bred by Maine Chance Farms, Saturday’s winner races for Messrs A Joannides, R M Sewgoolam, D C Stonebridge, Mr & Mrs C R Stonebridge.

Time Is Precious, who is out of the Vercingetorix mare Twilight Hour, was a R300 000 buy from the 2025 National Yearling Sale.

He is the latest stakes winner for Querari, South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2yos in 2018-2019.
Querari’s other flagbearers this season include such stakes winners as Queen Regent, Star Major and Questioning, as well as the exciting two-year-old Turn It Up. The latter won the recent Race Coast Sales Slipper.
