Querari filly wins on debut

27th February 2026

Maine Chance Farms’ G1 winning stallion Querari is enjoying another fine run with his two-year-olds.
The son of Oasis Dream came up with his sixth two-year-old winner this season when his daughter Twilight made a winning debut at Turffontein on Thursday.
Trained by Michael Azzie, the two-year-old was given a fine ride by Keagan De Melo in Thursday’s Classic Day 7 March Maiden Juvenile Plate (1000m).
De Melo kept his mount just off the front running Catfish, before bringing Twilight with a strong run to get up and win by just over half a length.

Bred by Maine Chance Farms, Twilight races for the Wernars Family.

The filly is held in high regard by her connections, with Twilight sporting entries for both the Listed Wilgerbosdrift Ruffian Stakes and Listed Tab Storm Bird Stakes.

Out of the Silvano mare Tia, Twilight is bred on the same cross as G1 winners Bavarian Beauty and Cosmic Speed.

Her sire Querari is also broodmare sire of another promising two-year-old in the form of Queen Leila, with the latter winning the third race at Turffontein on Thursday.

South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs in 2018-2019 , Querari has a single lot on offer at the Cape Yearling Sale, but has 15 yearlings on sale at the Premier Yearling Sale.
