Smart win for Ashaawes 2yo

6th Jul 2017

Sandown Stud’s successful stallion Ashaawes has some very smart two-year-olds representing him this year, and his daughter Winter Watch added to his good record this season with a smart win at the Vaal on Thursday afternoon.

Trained by Roy Magner, Winter Watch showed huge courage to fight back courageously under jockey Gavin Lerena and go and score by half a length over 1000m.
Rated good enough to take her chances in the G2 SA Fillies Nursery, Winter Watch took her tally to 2 wins (and three placings) from just six starts and she won’t stop here.

Winter Watch is by no means the only promising two-year-old representing Ashaawes, with the latter also responsible for the smart Aurelia Cotta –a winner of two of her only three starts to date and a potential feature race contender.

A son of Kingmambo (whose sons Ideal World and Mambo In Seattle were both represented by graded winners on Vodacom Durban July day), Ashaawes is from the same family as top class US sire and broodmare sire Broken Vow.

Ashaawes is well established with his best offspring including such high class performers as Priceless Jewel, Reim and uber tough Dubai galloper Sanshaawes, who was runner up in the G1 Maktoum Challenge (Round 3).

He will be represented by eight lots at next month’s National 2YO Sale in Germiston.
