Sire sensation Gimmethegreenlight was represented by his 13th individual juvenile winner of the season when his daughter Marsala made a stunning winning debut at Scottsville on Wednesday.
Bred by Lammerskraal Stud, the beautifully bred filly justified her strong pre-race betting support (Marsala was backed down from 10-1 into 7-1) by staying on smartly to post a neck over fellow well bred first-timer Parade’s End over the 1200m trip.
Out of G3 performer Vermilion (a full-sister to Klawervlei’s exciting new sire Red Ray and G1 winner Nania), Marsala was a R325 000 buy from last year’s National Yearling Sale.
Her sire Gimmethegreenlight has made a superb start to his stud career, with the G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winners’ first crop responsible for six stakes winners, notably G1 winner Gunner and Daisy Fillies Guineas winner Gimme Six.
Gimmethegreenlight’s second crop has also come out firing, with the son of More Than Ready’s 13 2yo winners including four black type winners thus far, including G2 SA Fillies Nursery winner Green Plains.
He stands at Varsfontein Stud and is fully booked for the breeding season ahead.
