Maine Chance Farms’ multiple G1 winning stallion Vercingetorix has made a great start to his stud career, and the former Equus Champion was at it again at Greyville on Sunday.

A son of Maine Chance Farms’ multiple champion sire Silvano, Vercingetorix had a pair of eye catching 2yo winners on Sunday, with his son African Warrior winning Sunday’s first race, and fellow Vercingetorix son Padre Pio landing Greyville’s second race.

Both African Warrior and Padre Pio are out of mares by Jet Master -also damsire of the Silvano sired G1 SA Classic winner Hawwaam.

The Boland Stud bred African Warrior, who has a half-sister (Lot 268) on offer at next month’s National Sale, had been third in his first race and followed up by romping home to a 1.8 length win over 1000m on Sunday.
Trained by Dean Kannemeyer (who also part-owns him), the gelding had been a R100 000 buy from the 2018 KZN Yearling Sale.

Padre Pio became Vercingetorix’s sixth first crop winner when he made a winning debut on Sunday.
The Dennis Bosch trained two-year-old scored a cosy 0.6 of a length win, when winning under Anton Marcus over 1400 metres.

Unbeaten in four starts in South Africa, and also victorious in Dubai’s G1 Jebel Hatta, Vercingetorix is the country’s Leading First Crop Sire by individual winners and by prize money.

Vercingetorix, whose yearlings made up to R1 100 000 at January’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale, has 12 lots on offer at the 2019 National Sale, including a filly (Lot 138) out of G1 winner Lyrical Linda -whose 3 black type winners include G1 Summer Cup hero Liege.
