Thursday double for Gimmethegreenlight

30th Dec 2022

Varsfontein Stud’s champion sire Gimmethegreenlight is currently heading the General Sires List for 2022-2023, and the son of More Than Ready’s great form this season continued when Gimmethegreenlight came up with two classy winners at the Vaal’s Classic Track on Thursday.
Gimmethegreenlight’s exciting daughter Gimme A Shot made it three wins from just six starts when scoring an emotional win in Thursday’s 4Racing Wishes You A Blessed Festive Season Graduation Plate (1200m).
The three-year-old, whose owner-breeder Kevin Soal had tragically been killed a few weeks earlier, outclassed her rivals when storming home to score by three lengths on Thursday.
Trained by Michael and Adam Azzie, Gimme A Shot was making it back to back wins, with the classy filly having captured the G2 Betway Ipi Tombe Challenge last time out.
One of 49 stakes winners for her sire, Gimme A Shot is out of the Rakeen mare Shot In The Dark.
Gimmethegreenlight is also sire of the very smart gelding Paisley Park, who provided trainer Sean Tarry with a third win on Thursday when he captured the eighth race at the Vaal.
Winner of the 2020 Listed Secretariat Stakes, five-year-old Paisley Park bounced back to winning ways when he claimed the Book A Table Call 011-681-1796 Middle Stakes on Thursday. Under Calvin Habib, the Klawervlei Stud bred gelding bounded clear to score a convicing near one and a half length win in Thursday’s 1450m race.
One of two winners on the day for his dam Eva Tibbs, Paisley Park has now won or been placed in seven of his nine starts.
South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2020-2021, Gimmethegreenlight has been responsible for four black type winners this season, with the stallion’s progeny having already earned more than R7.256 million in 2022-2023.
