Drakenstein Stud’s champion sire Trippi made his mark at Wednesday’s Barretts Spring 2-Year-Old Sale.
The perennial leading sire is broodmare sire of the one day auction’s top priced filly.
The latter, catalogued as Lot 109, is a daughter of Will Take Charge and high class racemare Trip For A.J.(by Trippi). Trip For A.J. won ten races and over $600 000 in stakes, with her victories including the Calder Oaks.
The sales’ topping filly, bred on a similar cross to G1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner Liam’s Map, was knocked down to Rockingham Ranch for $335 000.
Bloodstock agent Raymie Lightner, who signed for the filly, said, “From the start, she stood out. She looked good on the track- she galloped out strong and looked good doing it. And she had great conformation. There was nothing not to like about her. She was the one we zeroed in on from the start. We are tickled to death to have. She did it all for us.”
Trippi, South Africa’s Champion Sire in 2015-2016, could be on track for another big weekend. The son of End Sweep will be represented in all of the G1 HF Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes, G1 SA Classic, G3 Byerley Turk and Listed Jacaranda Handicap.
Sire of over 130 stakes horses, Trippi has two yearlings on next week’s April Yearling Sale and a further eight lots on the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
