Klawervlei Stud’s four time G1 winning sire, and European champion, Twice Over had a memorable weekend this past week, when the Klawervlei resident sire was responsible for four winners in two different countries.

The Twice Over four-timer kicked off when his La Plaisance son Head Boy romped home to shed his maiden over 1900m at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Friday evening. The Andre Nel trained gelding scored a strong one and a half length win for owner Sabine Platner in Friday’s race, with Head Boy having now won or placed in each of his last four starts.

Twice Over went on to supply three more winners the following day, with the dual G1 Emirates Airline Champion Stakes winner having success at both Kenilworth and Champ De Mars on Saturday. Twice Over’s son Wendylle provided his sire with more Mauritians success when he won over 990m at Champ De Mars on Saturday afternoon.

Twice Over also supplied the winners of the first races at both Turffontein and Kenilworth on Saturday, with his son African Darter scoring at Turffontein, and daughter Contented Queen shedding her maiden at Kenilworth.

Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, the Paul Peter trained African Darter got off the mark at the third time of asking when successful over 1450m, on Turffontein’s inside track, on Saturday afternoon.
Trainer Glen Kotzen sent out Contented Queen to break her maiden over 1000m at Kenilworth on Saturday for breeders Normandy Stud, while providing Twice Over with yet another win on the day.

From the same family as breed shaping sire Damascus and recently retired dual G1 winner Yoshida, Twice Over (whose promising 3yo son Invidia ran a close up second at Kenilworth on Saturday) made an exceptional start to his stud career with his very first crop producing dual G1 Vodacom Durban July winner, and South Africa’s reigning Horse Of The Year, Do It Again, as well as G1 Tsogo Sun Gold Medallion hero Sand And Sea and triple graded stakes winner Doublemint.
