Drakenstein Stud’s bang in-form champion sire Trippi, whose son Lobo’s Legend won the recent G1 SA Classic, looks to have another smart 3yo to his credit in the form of Sugar Girl.
The latter, bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, made it two wins from just three outings when romping to a 2.5 length win over 1200m, when making her Polytrack debut at Greyville on Wednesday.
Trained by Dean Kannemeyer, the sophomore was steered to victory by jockey Anton Marcus.
Sugar Girl was the top lot sold at the2016 National Yearling Sale, where the bay was sold for R2 500 000.
Her sire Trippi, South African Champion Sire in 2015-2016, has a superb crop of 3yos this season, headed by the millionaires Lobo’s Legend and Miss Katalin, BSA August Million winner Broadway Trip, and G1 Cape Guineas second White River.
The champion has two lots on this week’s April Yearling Sale and seven lots on the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
