Varsfontein Stud’s sire sensation Gimmethegreenlight has been on a roll over the past few months, and the G1 winning son of More Than Ready was at it again at the Vaal on Tuesday.

Gimmethegreenlight, whose past two-year-old winners include such graded stakes winners as Gunner, Green Plains and Hack Green, had a pair of 2yo winnners on Tuesday, which took the sire’s tally of juvenile winners this season to six (from only eight runners!).

His beautifully bred two-year-old son Green Laser got off the mark at just the second time of asking when he scored a courageous win, in Tuesday’s first race, over 1200m, when beating Doublethink by a head.

Bred by Varsfontein Stud, Green Laser was all the rage for Tuesday’s maiden juvenile plate and eventually started a 5-4 tote favourite.

Out of the Parade Leader mare Dance Domain, the Robbie Sage trained colt is bred on the same Gimmethegreenlight/Parade Leader cross as multiple graded stakes winner Gimme One Night.

Green Laser’s paternal half-brother Got The Greenlight provided Gimmethegreenlight with a 2yo double when he won the Vaal’s third race, a maiden juvenile plate over 1200m.

Trained by Joe Soma, and ridden by S’Manga Khumalo (also victorious in the recent G3 Prix du Cap on Gimmethegreenlight filly Rose In Bloom), Got The Greenlight followed up a second on debut with a 0.7 of a length win over regally bred first-timer Ehsaan.

Gimmethegreenlight, South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire of 2015-2016, also went close to enjoying a graded double at Turffontein on Saturday.

His daughter Anneka caught the eye when finishing a close-up second in Saturday’s G3 Acacia Handicap, while Gimmethegreenlight sons Barahin and National Park (an impressive winner of the recent G2 Gauteng Guineas) ran second and third respectively in the same day’s G1 SA Classic. Both Barahin and National Park have earned over R1 000 000 in prize money.
