Ridgemont’s sensational young stallion Rafeef has had another fine season in 2022-2023, and the former G1 Computaform Sprint winner ended the season on a high-note when his two-year-old son Outlaw King won the G2 Tabgold Umkhomazi Stakes at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday.
An impressive winner of his first two starts, including the Bloodstock SA Sales Cup (C and G), Outlaw King had finished third in the G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes before taking second spot in the G1 Gold Medallion.
The colt made amends for a disappointing fifth place finish last time out with a convincing win in Sunday’s Umkhomazi Stakes.
Under champion jockey elect Keagan De Melo, the Dean Kannemeyer trained Outlaw King hit the front someway from home and kept finding in the closing stages to claim his first black type win by a long neck.
Bred by James Armitage, Outlaw King has now won three of six starts.
The colt, who is out of the Greys Inn mare Way Of Escape, was a R300 000 buy from the 2022 National Yearling Sale.
Outlaw King is the 13th stakes winner for Rafeef, whose other high-class two-year-olds this season include G3 Pretty Polly Stakes winner Leaving Las Vegas.
South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2020-2021, Rafeef has ten lots on offer at the 2023 August Two Year Old Sale.
