Vercingetorix mare lands River Indigo Handicap

2nd December 2024

Maine Chance Farms’ star stallion Vercingetorix dominated proceedings at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday.
The champion son of Silvano was responsible for three winners on Sunday’s eight-race card, with Vercingetorix also responsible for the feature race winner at Hollywoodbets Scottsville.
Vercingetorix daughters Bevies Delight and Warrior Royale finished first and second in Sunday’s River Indigo Handicap (Non-Black Type) (1400m) to give their sire another memorable result.
Five-year-old Bevies Delight, bred by Maine Chance, duly justified favouritism, when she stormed home, under Gavin Lerena, to beat her paternal half-sister by just over a length.
Trained by Peter Muscutt, Bevies Delight has won three of 16 starts, with the mare having finished second in her two starts prior to Sunday’s win.
The classy Bevies Delight, who is out of the Dynasty mare Bella Spumante, is bred on the same Vercingetorix/Dynasty cross as top-class gelding Gladatorian.
The latter showed his class when romping home to land Sunday’s Gallop TV Pinnacle Stakes in impressive fashion. Sent off a warm favourite, the Stuart Ferrie-trained five-year-old did just enough to land Sunday’s race comfortably by nearly a length and a quarter.
Bred by Erasmus Thoroughbreds, Gladatorian (runner-up in the recent G2 Allied Steelrode -Onamission Charity Mile) has won eight of 22 starts including the 2023 G2 Post Merchants.
Out of the Dynasty mare Harvard Crimson, Gladatorian took his earnings to R1,294,938 with his triumph on Sunday.
Vercingetorix’s third and final win on Sunday came when his daughter Tomyris won the eighth and final race on the card.
Under Chase Maujean, the Gareth Van Zyl-trained four-year-old stayed on gamely to land the Hollywoodbets Bright Future FM 78 Handicap (1400m) by a length.
Tomyris, who is out of the Windrush mare Hungry Heart, was bred by Narrow Creek Stud.
Her inform sire Vercingetorix has four sons entered for the 2024 G1 Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas.
